News release written for a PR Writing class. It was written to inform the public in Provo, Utah of an upcoming BYU devotional.
PROVO. Oct. 25, 2022 — Paul Cox, renowned scholar and author of nearly 200 academic papers and four books, will address local audiences on Oct. 25 as part of a BYU forum. The forum will begin at 11:05 a.m. at the Marriott Center on the north sides of BYU’s campus.
Cox received his Bachelor’s degree in Botany and Philosophy from Brigham Young University and continued to Harvard where he was awarded the Bowdoin Prize, twice. TIME magazine named Cox one of the 11 “Heroes of Medicine” in 1997.
Currently, he is the executive director of the Brain Chemistry Labs in Jackson Hole Wyoming. As an expert in ethnobotany with his experience in nature related issues, Cox has been asked to deliver a speech to bring awareness to various environmental issues.
“How awe-inspiring it is to know that God has given us this Earth,” Cox said in a previous forum address. “It is up to us to care for it and use it wisely to help His children.”
He will be discussing many different aspects of his career through the light of his faith in hopes that this forum will help provide the audience with deeper insight into local environmental issues. The event will be free and is open to the public. Broadcast details will be available soon.
Brigham Young University aims, in every aspect, to increase the faith, knowledge, and character of all those who interact with the university in its many capacities. It seeks to take learning beyond the classroom and build a lifelong desire to serve in those who attend the university. Weekly campus forums and devotionals are one way in which this is accomplished. Select speakers are chosen to bring their knowledge, experiences in the field, and spiritual perspectives to a receptive audience with the goal of expanding perspectives.
