This was composed as part of assignment for a PR writing class. It was drafted to be sent to Nathan Rott, an NPR journalist, to raise awareness of elk migration patterns in Utah. It was proposed as a pitch to cover the story.

Subject: Dead Dolphins and Missing Elk
Nathan,
I’ve got to say, “dead dolphins” is an eye-catching headline. It definitely grabbed my attention. I read your article about the impact of Russia’s invasion on nature and was stunned. I had never thought that submarines could disrupt nature like that.
I spent some time thinking about what your article echoed, the dire consequences of such disruptions. It brought a recent BYU study to mind. We’ve noticed that elk in Utah have begun disappearing onto private lands at the start of hunting season. It’s out of the ordinary and could open a world of thought for your readers. Without spoiling too much, the elk are getting smarter.
Take a look at the article here:
Let me know what you think.
